Ex Primer Ministro francés. Ejerció este cargo entre 1984 y 1986. Fue Consejero Regional de Haute-Normandie, de 1986 a 1989. Ejerció además el cargo de Primer Secretario del Partido Socialista francés, de 1992 a 1993. Visitó Chile a fines de 1987, oportunidad en que recorrió diversas poblaciones de la Región Metropolitana, expresando su solidaridad con el pueblo chileno.
